CONCEPT

GREEN HILL / GREEN HELL

Promise of a place.

The Nürburgring is known as the Green Hell: a landscape defined by speed, danger and the uncompromising logic of the track. In Hangzhou, that relationship evolves into a Green Hill.

The 2.6-kilometre test circuit does not surround an isolated factory. It threads through a landscape of production, research, administration, museum, customer delivery and events. Production buildings, research, administration and visitor functions form one inhabited landscape. Research buildings rise as inhabited hills rather than isolated institutional blocks, while a central landscape park connects employees, visitors, vehicles and public experience.

The test track runs through and around the complex and becomes part of the visitor experience. The central park links production, research, museum, visitor centre and customer delivery. Automotive engineering becomes legible as a place rather than a collection of specialised objects: green hills — neither building nor landscape, but one built environment that deconstructs the difference between the two categories.
